Cycle Rally to raise awareness on technical education

Admission for Janpriya Technical School has already started for new session 2063/064. The management committee is rigorously doing advertisement and counseling activities to attract students to technical education. First they produced brochures, pamphlets and advertisements on the local FM radio station. Second, they sent the request letters with pamphlets and brochures to 15 neighboring District Development Committees, District Education Offices, All Village Development Committees of Makawanpur districts and municipalities requesting to informing there about the technical course and send the student for new session. Further, the school highlighted the availability of well-equipped lab facilities and the trained teachers. Third, The SMC went on a tour to neighboring VDC's like Harnamadi, Chatiwan, Gadi, Namtar, Bhaise, Thingan , Markhu and met with local farmer groups, VDCs and local political leaders. Aiming at bringing more students for the new session.

Following a meeting of NEST Executives with the SMC of the school last week, the SMC organized a Motor Cycle/ Cycle rally in Hetauda Nagarpalika area on Saturday ( 19 August, 2006) campaigning for the new admission and informing the people about the technical courses. The rally has been successful in raising interest and awareness about the course and the school is very optimistic that the number of students will increase this year because of this campaign. PTA member, Head Teacher, SMC member, Teachers, Students and NEST members had participated in the rally.

Beside the public campaign, the SMC of the school had a meeting with the DDC. DDC has taken the request positively and is going to encourage all VDC's to send at least 2 students one girl and one boy from their VDC for the JTA/VET course for the new session. The SMC is lobbing to provide the scholarship from the VDC to the students for the course. The students who get scholarship from the VDC will have to volunteer in their villages at least for six months to one year after the completion of the course. NEST Executive director also highlighted the importance of the course and about the Janapriya Technical School and the new admission notice in the Annual Review meeting of NGOs and government agencies organized by makawanpur DDC. He also requested NGOs, in particular Plan Nepal to provide scholarship to the students from each VDC from their education budget. The argument that NEST made in the meeting was that when the students would finish there courses the VDC will get the technical manpower and local community would be really benefited.

To the date, 33 students have already collected the new admission forms from the school and school hope at least 60/65 students will be there for the new session. All political parties co- ordination committee including CPN Maoist has also instructed all VDC/DDC level leaders to co-operate and help the school positively by sending students from their village with VDC's support. Today Hetauda FM aired an interview with the head teacher of the Janapriya regarding the technical school in their education program.
